Most accidents are caused by men between 45 and 59 years old, drivers are to blame

For the month of May, the number of road accidents decreased by 10% compared to the same period last year.

"The period of May was a period when we had excessive humidity and this may have increased to some extent the accidents on the road as a result of the malfunction of the braking system and lack of care by the drivers. The less a driver takes his attention away from driving in wet weather, the risk of an accident increases several times", said traffic expert Arben Luzi.

In the first 5 months of the year, 427 road accidents occurred from 483 last year. Here too, a decrease of 11.6% is observed.

In addition to the behavior of drivers, there are also accidents caused by pedestrians.

"They block the road everywhere, they don't cross the white lines, they don't respect the traffic lights for pedestrians, there are many people who still don't know how the traffic lights work. So all this, the lack of proper education in the behavior of pedestrians on the road, in the implementation of road traffic norms, cause them to have their own problems. However, we should not excuse the drivers in this case, because they also have their share of having to walk carefully at intersections where pedestrians interrupt the carriageway in large numbers", said the expert .

According to the figures referred to the Institute of Statistics, during the month of May there were 136 accidents, while the 5-month calculation results in 590 accidents./TCH
