The decision of the Special Court to keep Fredi Beleri in prison has once again troubled Athens. Although justice is independent and cannot be at the service of anyone, Greece thinks it can do as it pleases in our country. From the moment of his arrest until today, there have been only interventions and attempts to get justice.
Today Beleri addressed you to the court again, but she refused the release. In the meantime, the Greek media have started the attacks, as some describe Edi Rama as a traitor. " Kathimerini " has written a long article, where it is stated that Rama himself had initially given guarantees to Athens that Beleri would be released, but then changed his position.
The Prime Minister of Albania is said to have offered the Greek side a behind-the-scenes guarantee, immediately after the second Greek election, that "the Beleri issue will be resolved". Today it is understood that he simply played the bluff to buy time, as he aims for the 3-month deadline for his swearing-in as mayor to expire. According to Albanian law, the mayor is required to have a residential address within the boundaries of his municipality. Fredi Beleris already has the address of the prison where he is being held, as every prisoner after spending three months in a cell receives the address of the detention center. "Technically", according to legal sources, the quarter ended yesterday, Sunday, August 20 ", writes the Greek media.
It is not known how true is what the Greek media says, as it could also be a diversion. But on the other hand, everything is expected from the Albanian government, as it should not be forgotten that there was a meeting between Rama and Mitsotakis some time ago.

Beleris was elected with the support of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha's party (ending a long-standing rivalry between them). Rama and Berisha are sworn enemies, with the result produced in Himarë, another conflict front has opened between them - with the victim Beleris. Balkan experts say that Rama is playing such a tough game with Athens, because Berisha is an "undesirable person" for Washington. On May 19, 2021, the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, stated directly that Berisha is undesirable for the US because he is involved in corruption cases. Even, according to some sources, Fredi Beleris does not have an entry permit to the USA ", it is further emphasized.
