The well-known Professor of Veterinary Medicine, Kristaq Berxholi, passed away today at the age of 75.
He was born on August 1, 1948 in Lunzheri of Gjirokatra. After finishing high school in the city of Gjirokastra, Berxholi attended higher studies in Veterinary Medicine at the Higher Agricultural Institute.
After completing his studies in 1973, he worked as a veterinarian and then as the head of the veterinary service in Tepelena. In 1979, he was appointed a researcher in the Department of Virology at the Institute of Veterinary Studies in Tirana, which he later led from 1997 to 2002.
From 2002, he worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and from 2004, he was the head of the Department of Preclinical Subjects of this faculty.
After the university qualification, he was awarded several degrees and scientific titles such as "Doctor of Science" and "Professor". Professor Berxholi is the author of many scientific publications on virological, immunological diseases and zoonoses. He has been a close collaborator of the media on food safety and public health issues.
