The Bunec Hydropower Plant dam in Lukovë broke, creating a risk of flooding in Vlora yesterday.
The Vlora Police and the Prosecutor's Office have launched an investigation into the dam explosion. In the meantime, all evidence has been collected at the scene that could lead to the discovery of the factors that led to the dam's rupture.
An investigation has also been launched by the prosecution, while those responsible for implementing the project years ago are expected to be questioned.
The two main reasons why the dam could have burst are poor quality construction and water overloading beyond its capacity as a result of high flows.
According to information from residents of the area, electricity has been restored in the villages of Borsh, Piqeras, Lukovë, Bunec, Shën Vasil, Fterrë, Nivicë. Water has been removed from the nine Bunec stations that supplied these villages with energy, while the flow of water in the dam has also stopped.
