Who is Gëzim Çela?

Today Gëzim Çela is 55 years old, but his name has been registered in the police files since he was 22 years old and he was convicted for the first time by the Trieste Court in Italy for exploitation of prostitution. For years, he has been accused and convicted several times in absentia, in Italy and Albania, but even when he was arrested, he did not stay long in prison. He got away with fake medical reports, inventing illnesses he didn't have.

Gëzim Çela is the father of 4 children and is divorced by the papers. Argument that was used in court by his lawyer, to relieve the accused, regarding the objects that were seized from his wife's apartment in "Don Bosko", in Tirana.

He is a resident of the village of Fushë-Kuqe, Kurbini, where checks have been carried out from time to time by the Police. His uncle's son, Nerim Çela, was arrested during the "Flame at sea" operation, when traffickers set fire to the ship suspected of trafficking drugs. Gëzim Çela also has family ties with the "king of gambling", Ervis Martinaj, who has been missing for more than a year. Specifically, Çela's cousin, Nerim Çela, is the uncle of Brilant Martinaj, who was killed in the terrible assassination attempt that took the lives of his two friends, last year, at the Fushë-Kruja crossing.

His name also appears in the "Metamorphosis" folder. In the messages exchanged by the characters of this file, Dorian Duli, who was one of the people targeted to be killed by the Bajri group, but also Lulzim Kulla, the son-in-law of the Lici family, is commented as a strong connection of Gëzim Çele.

Gëzim Çela is suspected of using his villa in Fushë Kuqe for drug trafficking. It was there that the police found 18 kilograms of cocaine some time ago. In June 2014, the Albanian and Kosovar police destroyed a structured criminal group, which trafficked hard drugs from Turkey to Western Europe, also using the territory of Albania.

At the border point of Morini in Kukës, the citizen, Erald Hysolli, was arrested with 7 kilograms of cocaine. He was a drug courier, who was supplied in Pristina. At the same time, 3 people were arrested red-handed in the capital of Kosovo, and 50 kilograms of cocaine and heroin were seized.

However, during the search at Çela's villa in Fushë Kuqe, Kurbin, they found not only 18 kilograms of cocaine, but also 150 kilograms of cannabis sativa.

Police forces also seized 9 weapons, 3 snipers, grenades and armored cars. Çela was released by the Albanian court with the argument that he was suffering from a serious illness. Then he was arrested for falsifying the medical card and was put under "house arrest". When the police surrounded Çela's house in Mamurras, he was not there.

When the drug arrived in Albania, it was sent to Gëzim Çela's villa in Fushë Kuqe, from where it was distributed to western countries. Çela had turned the family's villa into a laboratory for mixing drugs. Çela was wanted as the head of this drug trafficking network. For him, there is a sentence from the Italian court with 11 years of imprisonment, as well as a 150,000 euro fine, under the charge of international drug trafficking. Gëzim Çela, before being implicated in drug trafficking and being the leader of a cocaine trafficking gang, was an officer of the Special Police Forces. He held this position before 1997.
