Analyst Neritan Sejamini has commented on the level of criminality in Albania, which he calls quite disturbing.
In an interview for "Te Paespozuarit" he said that Albanians control drug trafficking on a global scale. Sejamini added that already in Albania drug consumption has returned to a very disturbing level, as shown by the operation to capture hundreds of drug dealers who distributed narcotics in schools.
"Albania has a big problem with drugs. Albanians are a small nation with less than 6-7 million in the world. It has become one of the countries that totally controls drug trafficking.
We say there is nothing that people do drugs because we just transport it and take the money.
Mass drug use has begun in Albania today. For the use of cocaine, Albania is in the first 2-3 places. Through schools and institutions with young people, there is a massive distribution of drugs. We live in a situation where there is no national strategy for the fight against crime and drugs.
We just fragment everything. This is not about fighting crime. This must become a major issue, otherwise we will be suffocated by drugs. We have the police, the prosecutor's office, politics, working for a criminal. We have a big problem with crime. It is the main economic activity in Albania.
The future is bleak for Albania.
Crime is everywhere, but the difference between a state and a country that is bankrupt and subject to crime, in other countries the state fights crime, in Albania crime has made the state an instrument for the development of criminal activity.
Crime and drugs must become the main issue for us", said Sejamini.
