Why was Fier Prison chosen to hold political "VIPs"?

The former Police Chief of the Peqin prison, Faik Basha, explained the reasons why the VIP prisoners were transferred from the Durrës prison to the one in Fier.

In an interview for the show "Now" on "Euronews Albania", he said that the Fier prison was recently built respecting the parameters of the European Union for these types of institutions.

" There is no difference, Fier Prison has recent construction parameters, according to European Union parameters for these types of institutions.

Durrës prison is amortized, it is an old prison, it cannot maintain these types of capacities. There is a risk analysis, that if it had worked for me, it would have worked in Peqin prison" , said Faik Basha.
