In Vlora, the revolt of the citizens continues, for 5 days now, they have not had water, while the Municipality does not provide any solution. The citizens have gathered in the square in front of the Municipality, while the Mayor is not in the office. According to the citizens, the Mayor Brunilda Mersini, was justified because she was in the Waterworks Directorate.
The following video circulating on social media shows what is happening in the coastal city, where Edi Rama won his first term as MP, while Vlora has been consistently considered a vote bank for the Socialists.
"I spoke on the phone with the Mayor, who has been lying to us for 3 days, telling us that she is at the Water Supply. She should come here and give us an account, tell us when the water will come to our apartments. Today is the 5th day that we have no water. Yesterday she was at the Gala evening, but she left through the back door, after people entered the "Petro Marko" theater hall. We are only hearing lies," said one of the citizens.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the emergency headquarters is expected, called by the Prefect to analyze the serious situation in Vlora, where the entire city has been left without water.
Citizens are expected to gather in front of the Prefecture, where the meeting will be held.
The Mayor's Reaction
Avoiding meeting with the citizens, Mayor Brunilda Mersini says that the problem is already on the way to being solved. She considers the defect that has left the city without water as a natural disaster, even though in recent days there has been no natural phenomenon that has affected the water supply pipes. Perhaps out of ignorance, or to avoid any kind of responsibility for the lack of reaction of the institutions, Mersini has come to the conclusion that we are dealing with a natural disaster that is being politically exploited by the opposition.
Mersini stated that until the arrival of the necessary part for the final recovery of the damage, a provisional solution has been found, while over 15 water tankers operate in the city, where priority for supply has been given to institutions.
She said that the protest is led by Democratic members of the City Council and that this is not the time to oppose a disaster.
"I think it is not the time to share responsibilities. The water supply is not under the municipality's control, but it is the time to manage this disaster. The good news is that today the test has resulted positive in the last test and a part of the city, namely the Lungomare, with minimal pressure to not increase the risk level until we make the final solution.
The pumps in this gradual test will begin to supply specific parts of the city. But I emphasize that over 15 water tanks have been operating in the city for 3 days, but we have given priority to institutions. The protest is organized by the opposition and by the opposition members of the Municipal Council. This is not the time to oppose a natural disaster.
