Henri Telharaj, Director of the Albanian Council for Gambling Problems, commenting on the return of sports betting, emphasized that playing online is not a success.
In an interview for the show "Now" in Euronews Albania, he said that before online betting is licensed, some criteria must be established, as individuals who are addicted to gambling tend to have financial problems.
Among other things, he said that mediation should be done with financial institutions regarding online betting, since there is a conflict of interest.
" Playing online is not a success. The easier you play, the easier you will lose. It needs a mix. Online business development is not the most likely business development. These same individuals who will develop the online activity have another problem, the financial agents themselves have a significant conflict of interest, therefore banks should be a very important part of the debate.
Individuals with gambling addictions have a tendency to go with financial problems, therefore mediation should be done with financial institutions because the bottom line is a conflict of interest. In this way, it destroys not only the individual, and the family, but also the community where he lives. Therefore, a hermetic network of protection must be established because online gambling has a tendency to be more addictive than offline gambling. Online betting should be formalized with certain criteria ," he said.
