Sociologist Ergys Mërtiri commented on the PISA report, according to which it was found that students in Albania have very poor general knowledge. Mertiri said that this comes as a result since the focus of the schools are not the children and the teachers.
He also said that in our country more importance is given to holidays and various organizations which often have nothing to do with students and he mentioned here the fact that in 9-year schools there are short hours for holidays such as Halloween and Valentine's Day.
"Schools do not focus on children and teachers, teachers as the instrument with which you educate the child. There is no study, if you ask all the elements, they are disconnected from each other, they are not integrated. The school itself has no focus. I have seen that teachers organize for Halloween, field trips or parties with students or have reduced hours for Halloween or for Valentine's Day. 9-year-old children, what are you teaching them? When the school cultivates the celebration of pumpkins, of course it will produce pumpkins and it will be reflected in PISA, the pumpkinization of the Albanian education system", said Ergys Mërtiri.
