Police operations and criminal investigations over the past few hours confirm the intensification of the crackdown on organized crime, violence and criminal acts in Albania, the region and beyond. Arrests by SPAK, serious criminal incidents, large seizures of assets and drugs, as well as international developments in the fight against the mafia and financial fraud, make up the panorama of the dark chronicle of the day.
Crime and police actions in Albania and the region
Operational Forces arrested in Bajrat i Dobraçit and Fushë-Kuqe two wanted by SPAK, Elvin Merlika and Alket Xhixha, both armed and involved in plans to assassinate Indri Dokla. The Special Court ordered their arrest in prison.
In Vlora, three people were arrested for the kidnapping of Fisnik Xhaka from Kosovo, who was held hostage for 70 thousand euros in connection with a drug debt. The victim was released unharmed, while the arrests are related to kidnapping, violence and criminal exploitation.
In Shkodra, three teenagers were injured with a knife after a conflict in the Zdrale neighborhood, near the "Shejnaze Juka" school. The victims are out of danger.
A 34-year-old fraudster was arrested for fraud and breach of security, posing as a real estate agent.
Criminal groups and international activity
Arrests in Gjirokastra and cooperation with Greece uncovered a group that planned contract killings and was linked to fuel burning and vehicle theft.
Paraguayan and Brazilian authorities dismantled the international network of the "Balkan Mafia", seizing 28 tons of cocaine, with strong links to Albanian and European crime.
In Vienna, a large cannabis plantation with over 2,190 plants and 15 kg of cannabis yeast was seized, leading to the arrest of three people.
In Kosovo, Customs seized around 300 thousand undeclared euros in Han i Elezit.
In Italy, the Anti-Mafia Directorate in Bari seized over 30 million euros, while warning of the increase in Albanian organized crime's links with South American cartels.
Dramatic events abroad
In Marseille, a 15-year-old, Adele, was murdered and burned on the beach, in an incident linked to drug gang warfare and the involvement of teenagers. The DZ mafia controls the drug market in the city.
Finance and financial crime
USA: Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for fraud that caused the collapse of the TerraUSD and Luna coins, causing global losses of about $40 billion.
