The Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania (VUSH) and the Muslim Community of Albania have reacted to the instruction of the Ministry of Health, according to which, for the first time in the public health service in Albania, hormonal therapy is provided for transgender people, including minors.
Through a public statement, VUSH expresses concern about what it calls the "development of gender ideology," emphasizing that the traditional family, which remains at the center of faith and values, is being violated.
"We share the concern that the traditional family is being violated through these recent initiatives and developments. The pro-family stance, support for the values of the traditional family, man and woman, as recognized by the Family Code of the Republic of Albania, gives every Albanian citizen the right to articulate and defend these positions publicly," their response states, among other things.
According to VUSH, human identity as male and female is given by God and cannot be changed by the will of the individual.
" As the Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania, we are following developments on gender ideology and most recently with the therapy that is expected to be allowed at the QSUT. We have the family at the center of our faith and the biblical values that we represent. We believe that the protection of the family, as recognized by the Bible, tradition and Albanian legislation, remains a fundamental value for our society.
The Bible teaches that there is only one God who is the Creator and Lord of all. No one can know themselves without truly knowing the One who created us. Our true identity, as men and women, is given by God. It is not only foolish, but also hopeless, to try to make ourselves what God did not create us to be. We emphasize that we fully support the value and dignity of every human being, as men and women, created in the image of God. We share the concern that the traditional family is being violated through these recent initiatives and developments. The pro-family stance, support for the values of the traditional family, man and woman, as recognized by the Family Code of the Republic of Albania, gives every Albanian citizen the right to articulate and defend these stances publicly.
Pastor Akil Pano has been a well-known voice in support of the traditional family and its values, contributing for years to spiritual, social and community life. We express our support for Pastor Akil Pano and his family, in the face of the harsh public language, personal attacks and attempts at stigmatization, which violate the individual, but also any pastor or clergyman exercising his duty.

I bëjmë thirrje opinionit publik që të ruajë maturinë, respektin dhe përgjegjësinë në komunikim, duke mbrojtur dinjitetin e familjes, rolin e pastorit në shoqëri dhe të drejtën e secilit për të shprehur bindjet e veta në paqe dhe dinjitet", thuhej në reagimin e plot të VUSH.
KMSH-ja nga ana tjetër, shprehet se po e ndjek me “shqetësim të thellë” debatin e krijuar pas publikimit të udhëzimit, duke veçuar pjesën ku thuhet se terapia hormonale mund të nisë nga mosha 16 vjeç dhe, në raste të veçanta, edhe nga mosha 14 vjeç.
Sipas Komunitetit Mysliman, udhëzime të tilla përbëjnë një çështje tepër delikate, që prek drejtpërdrejt zhvillimin fizik, emocional dhe psikologjik të fëmijëve dhe adoleshentëve.
“Udhëzime të tilla përbëjnë një çështje jashtëzakonisht delikate, që prek drejtpërdrejt zhvillimin fizik, emocional dhe psikologjik sidomos të fëmijëve dhe adoleshentëve tanë. Për këtë arsye, çdo hap institucional në këtë drejtim duhet të trajtohet me kujdes maksimal, përgjegjësi të lartë dhe ndjeshmëri ndaj vlerave të shoqërisë shqiptare”, thuhet ndër të tjera në deklaratën e KMSH-së.
KMSH shpreh kundërshtimin ndaj çdo qasjeje që, sipas saj, hap rrugë për ndërhyrje hormonale në mosha të hershme, duke theksuar se të miturit nuk duhet të përballen me procese që sjellin pasoja afatgjata për jetën e tyre, në një periudhë kur identiteti dhe personaliteti janë ende në formim.
Komuniteti Mysliman i Shqipërisë i bën thirrje institucioneve shtetërore, profesionistëve të shëndetit, prindërve dhe aktorëve të tjerë shoqërorë që çështje të tilla të trajtohen me maturi, dialog të gjerë dhe përgjegjësi kombëtare.
"Qëndrim publik mbi udhëzimin për terapinë hormonale te të miturit Komuniteti Mysliman i Shqipërisë po ndjek me shqetësim të thellë debatin publik të krijuar pas publikimit të udhëzimit të Ministrisë së Shëndetësisë në tërësi, dhe në veçanti pjesën, ku ndër të tjera thuhet: “Terapia mund të nisë nga mosha 16 vjeç, ndërsa në raste të veçanta, mund të konsiderohet edhe nga mosha 14 vjeç.” Ashtu sikurse kemi qëndruar publikisht kundër ligjit të ashtuquajtur për barazinë gjinore, i mbetemi koherent qëndrimit kundër edhe derivateve të tjera të tij, siç është rasti konkret.
Such guidelines constitute an extremely delicate issue, which directly affects the physical, emotional and psychological development, especially of our children and adolescents. For this reason, every institutional step in this direction must be treated with utmost care, high responsibility and sensitivity to the values of Albanian society.
The Muslim Community of Albania expresses its opposition to any approach that paves the way for hormonal interventions at such ages. We believe that minors should not be placed in front of processes with profound and long-term consequences for their lives, at a time when their personality and identity are still being formed. Children need protection, guidance, family support and responsible professional care. Our society should not normalize practices that create uncertainty and social tension in relation to human nature, the family and the education of new generations.
"The KMSH calls on state institutions, health professionals, parents and all social actors to not treat such issues hastily or under the influence of temporary ideological trends, but with prudence, broad dialogue and national responsibility. We stand by the concerns of many parents and believers, who seek the preservation of family values, the protection of children and respect for the moral and cultural sensitivity of our society ," the KMSH statement said.
