The hearing for Arbër Paplekaj, convicted for the murder of Pjerin Xhuvan, who was killed on the eve of the parliamentary elections in 2021 in Elbasan, is postponed.
The reason for the postponement of the session was the absence of the prosecutor of the Gent Xholi case. The prosecutor has informed the court that he will be absent due to a personal problem.
Today in the session, the conclusions of the parties were expected, while the decision was postponed until June 5, at 09:30.
Arbër Paplekaj was sentenced to 22 years in prison. The event took place in the "5 Maj" neighborhood of the city of Elbasan. From the exchange of fire, the activist of the Socialist Party, Pjerin Xhuvani, was killed, while a police officer, Xhensila Sota, and three other people were injured.
The gun clash happened because of the elections. The deputy director of the Elbasan Police, Abert Nushi, and some members of the Eagles then arrived at the scene. After the arrival of the police, a vehicle with SP sympathizers arrived at the scene.
At this moment, the exchange of fire between the parties started. A few minutes after the event, former RENEA officer Arbër Paplekaj surrendered to the police, who allegedly shot at Xhuvan during the exchange of fire. The latter has repeatedly said that he shot in self-defense.
