In the podcast "TëPashoq" on Pamflet's "Youtube" channel, political scientist and analyst Fitim Zekthi analyzed the new US approach towards Albania.
According to Zekthi, American foreign policy has changed since January of this year, taking a more withdrawn and isolationist approach. He emphasizes that the US has given up its foreign policy of interfering everywhere. Regarding the cold reaction of the US to the elections, Zekthi said that he reads it as a message that the US is no longer interested in Albania. He further added that the same thing is happening with Kosovo, which has been in a political deadlock for two months.
" Look, first of all, we need to understand American foreign policy. US foreign policy has changed radically. President Trump, since the beginning of the year, has outlined new lines of American foreign policy. This policy is more or less isolationist, so we have a return to the old American tradition, the one before World War II. The US has always had an important and strong current of isolationist foreign policy, which does not get involved in world affairs and does not deal with them. President Trump has said: "We will deal with America, not with world affairs; we will deal with them only a little and rarely, when we are asked to and when it is justified." We have an American withdrawal from NATO and the EU.
Likewise, the US is showing itself indifferent to developments in Kosovo, even completely uninterested. There, for two months, no government has been formed. So, there is a fading; it is no longer the interventionist America of before January. These statements should also be seen in these conditions. Even that statement, “we congratulate the Albanian people on the elections,” shows that it no longer has any interest in Albania. The fact that they congratulate only the Albanian people shows that they recognize the current government as legitimate. The fear is that such a cold and short message shows that the US interest in us has decreased,” said Zekthi!
