A fire broke out this morning in the Orthodox Metropolis of Gjirokastra, burning the place of prayers and some other valuable items.
It is known that the fire broke out today around 11:20, while the fire brigade immediately arrived in the "Meçite" District, where Mitropolia is located.
The fire was contained thanks to the quick intervention of firefighters and did not manage to spread to other parts of the building, which were of wooden construction. As a result, they could have caused a massive fire and extensive damage.
The place of candles, some books and the prayer space were damaged by the fire. According to sources, the fire was caused by the burning of candles in the special place of prayers.
