A powerful earthquake has struck Afghanistan, leaving at least 15 dead and dozens more injured.
The 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit western Afghanistan. The epicenter was about 25 miles northwest of the city of Herat and was followed by a magnitude 5.5 aftershock, the USGS reported.
A map on its website showed seven earthquakes in the area.
At least 15 people were killed and around 40 others were injured, according to a disaster management official.
The figures are based on reports from Zinda Jan district of Herat province, said Mullah Jan Sayeq of Afghanistan's disaster management ministry.
He said the quakes had also rocked Farah and Badghis provinces, where there were reports of extensive damage to homes, but no details on casualties yet.
