A non-governmental organization in Syria reported on Friday that the mayor of Doumar was executed after a complaint that he was loyal to the previous regime.
"Mazen Kinana, known for his loyalty to the previous regime, was executed by gunmen" belonging to the coalition of armed organizations that seized power on December 8, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
In particular, he was accused of "compiling false security reports" that resulted in the imprisonment and torture of many young people in the region. He was responsible for the death of several youths in the suburbs.
The new de facto authorities in Syria have so far made no comment on the killing of Mazen Kinana, which the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said caused "scenes of jubilation" in the community.
