"Radical Democrats have lost a pathetic and anti-American witch hunt. There has never been a case, and, as scholars and legal experts have long reiterated, the persecution against me is a hoax that must be rejected completely," these were the words of the president President-elect of the USA, Donald Trump after the court decided to declare him guilty but not sentenced in the case related to the pornographic actress Stormy Daniels.
In a reaction on his social network "Truth", he is seen as a triumphant. If you feel relief inside, you certainly don't show it. But in front of his supporters he appears angrier than ever.
After weeks of stalling and maneuvering by his lawyers to prevent a ruling in the campaign fund case against former porn actress Stormy Daniels, even going to the conservative-majority Supreme Court (which this time he did not support it), the decision came. And although the "perpetual suspension of sentence" imposed by Judge Juan Merchan is light, his reputation will forever be tarnished: the first president to be convicted criminally in American history. Also, impossible to pardon himself — that is, to clean the stain by taking advantage of the special powers of his office, since he was convicted in a state court, not a federal one.
So yesterday Trump, with lawyer Todd Blanche at his side, vented his anger, taking part in the New York court hearing by video from his Mar-a-Lago resort, his soon-to-be-branch headquarters of the White House.
"It's been a terrible experience for me and my wife to go through this process. And it's a disgrace to the entire New York judicial system ," he said, pointing the finger for the umpteenth time at the actions of Merchan, who has long been threatened with death by his supporters. Trump also again accused District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whom Trump has previously accused of doing dirty work for Joe Biden and his "gang."
Being victimized. Trump repeated for the umpteenth time a concept that has been one of the main pillars of his election campaign: "A witch hunt has been set up against me, a trap to damage my reputation. "This whole thing has been a disgusting farce and now that it's over, we're going to appeal against this fraud that a person like me doesn't deserve," he declared.
He continued throughout the day to post complaints, accusations and even proposals for revenge via Truth.
"This case should never have gone to court. It is the fruit of a political persecution. Today is a sad day for me and for the country" , he wrote, also recalling the sensational victory in November: "Citizens saw how I was treated and voted for me. I won in all seven key states."
Once back in the White House, Trump will do anything to overturn the decision, no matter how easy. On appeal, if he can take the case to the New York State Supreme Court in Albany. Or directly through the Department of Justice, where he appointed the lawyer who helped him in this matter, Todd Blanche, as deputy minister. Apparently convinced that in that position he will have chances to defend himself and erase his criminal past./ La Repubblica
