NATO chief Mark Rutte has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to mend relations with US President Donald Trump after a heated debate at the White House.
Trump and Zelensky met on Friday to finalize a mineral deal, but the meeting failed.
The Ukrainian president said Washington should increase its support for Kiev instead of positioning itself as a neutral mediator with Moscow. Trump criticized Zelensky while telling him that he is not grateful for the help America has given him.
The confrontation led to the interruption of the meeting, with Trump reportedly escorting his guest from the White House.
"I said: I think you have to find a way, dear Vladimir, to restore relations with Donald Trump and the American administration. This is important for moving forward," Rutte said, referring to a phone call he had with Zelensky on Friday.
He reminded Zelensky of the support provided by the Trump administration, specifically the provision of Javelin anti-tank weapons in 2019, which were crucial in defending Ukraine when the conflict escalated in 2022.
