A very loud noise was heard in different parts of the province of Florence this morning, but the cause of what happened and the reconstruction of the dynamics is still unclear. According to reports, for reasons still unclear, one of the tanks exploded, including seven other silos and four vehicles.
The Department of Civil Defense has activated an alert for a radius of 5 km from the explosion area, asking people to keep their windows closed and not to approach the area.
"Do not leave the house, everyone who lives in the area has been evacuated immediately, take shelter inside," said the mayor of Calenzano.
The Department has activated the crisis unit and is in close coordination with the Rescue Coordination Center activated by the Prefecture. The department is continuing to monitor the situation and has sent a team to Florence to support local authorities.
The explosion occurred in an area designated as a loading point where tankers are filled with fuel. The column of smoke is also visible from nearby municipalities. The fire brigade and the police are working at the scene. In the area affected by the explosion, there is a strong acrid smell due to the burning of hydrocarbons, so much so that those present are distributed masks to protect their airways.
