Shaking his head at Donald Trump's baseless insistence that he lost the 2020 election by manipulation, Joe Biden said he hopes Trump's re-election on Tuesday will put to rest doubts about the US electoral system.
President Joe Biden gave his post-election speech, where he talked about the transition of power to the new president Donald Trump, which, according to him, will be smooth and without problems.
From the White House, he added that he had a phone call with his former rival, where he congratulated him on his victory and second term as US president.
" Yesterday I spoke with President-elect Trump to congratulate him on his victory and assured him that I direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. This is what the American people deserve ," Biden said.
Shaking his head at Donald Trump's baseless insistence that he lost the 2020 election by manipulation, Joe Biden said he hopes Trump's re-election on Tuesday will put to rest doubts about the US electoral system.
" Something to hope we can do, no matter who you voted for, is to see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans. I also hope that we can put an end to the question of the integrity of the American electoral system. It's honest, it's fair and transparent, and it can be trusted, won or lost ," said Biden.
During his speech, the president also thanked the election workers, who, according to him, showed that they deserve respect with these elections.
" I also hope that we can restore respect for all our election workers who were tired. First, we must thank them. Thank them for staffing the polling places, counting the votes, protecting the very integrity of elections. Many of them are doing it simply out of love for their country. And as they did, as they did their duty as a citizen, I will do my duty and I will to respect the constitution. On January 20, we will have a peaceful transfer of power here in America ," Biden said.
As he concluded his speech, Joe Biden addressed a few words to his fellow Democrats, who on Tuesday saw their candidate Kamala Harris defeated and their lawmakers lose control of the Senate.
" I know it's a difficult time. You are hurting. I hear you and I see you, but don't forget, don't forget all that we have achieved. It has been a historic presidency, not because I am president, but because of what we have done, what you have done. Much of the work we've done is already being felt by the American people, but the vast majority of it won't be felt ... over the next 10 years ... We have legislation that we've passed that just now, just came in with true. "We're going to see over a trillion dollars in infrastructure work, changing the lives of people in rural communities and communities that are in real trouble ," Biden said.
In the end, he closed the speech with a call to the administration, which he asked to work hard in the remaining 74 days of his mandate to achieve the goals and objectives.
" Together, we have changed America for the better. We now have 74 days to complete our mandate. Let's make every day count. This is the responsibility we have to the American people. Setbacks are inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable. We all fall, but the measure of our character, as my father would say, is how quickly we get back up. Remember, a defeat does not mean we are defeated. We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling you to rise again. This is the story of America for more than 240 years continues. It's a story for all of us, not just some of us. The American experiment continues. We will be fine, but we have to stay engaged," concluded Biden.
