A tragedy has occurred off the coast of Panama, where a Venezuelan girl died and 20 others were rescued after a boat loaded with migrants sank while heading to Colombia.
The ship had turned back from the United States, the Border Patrol said.
According to a statement from Panama's National Border Service (Senafront), which is responsible for rescue operations, the ship was carrying 19 migrants from Venezuela and Colombia and two traffickers.
Senafront said the ship sank in the early hours of Saturday off the coast of the indigenous coastal province of Guna Yala, in northeastern Panama, "due to a strong wave caused by bad weather."
