Kiev residents experienced another terrifying night, the second in a row, as Russian forces launched a barrage of drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens more, according to local officials.
Four people were killed in the Khmelnitskyi region, a city in western Ukraine, military authorities announced, after a new massive Russian air strike that occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
"Last night, the Khmelnitsky region was the target of hostile attacks from Russia. According to initial information, unfortunately four people were killed," Sergei Tyurin, deputy head of the region's military command, announced via Telegram, also mentioning five wounded people, one of whom is in serious condition.
Three more deaths were reported in the Kiev region and one in the southern city of Mykolaiv.
In Kharkiv (northeast), Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that drones hit three locations in Ukraine's second largest city.
The videos - the authenticity of which has not been verified - were posted on the Telegram platform, showing a fire allegedly caused by a Russian attack on the port of Odessa.
Air strikes were also reported in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, in southern Ukraine.
The attacks come amid a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, as part of an agreement reached days earlier in Istanbul.
On Saturday, 307 prisoners from each side were exchanged and the exchange is expected to continue today.
On the battle fronts, fighting continues with unabated intensity, with Russian troops gradually gaining ground despite suffering significant losses from time to time.
Russian forces have occupied the communities of Stupotsky and Odradne in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, according to a statement from the Defense Ministry in Moscow.
The Russian military also announced the capture of the town of Loknya in the Sumy region of northeastern Ukraine, where Moscow aspires to create a security zone to prevent cross-border attacks by Ukrainian forces similar to the one in Kursk last August.
In another development, the Russian Defense Ministry announced today that air defenses have intercepted and destroyed 95 Ukrainian drones in various parts of the country - including the Moscow region - over a four-hour period.
A post by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on the Telegram platform says 11 enemy drones were shot down while heading towards the Russian capital.
For safety reasons, the Russian Civil Aviation Authority was forced to temporarily suspend flights to and from Moscow airports.
Regional officials also reported that air defense systems shot down enemy drones in the cities of Tula (south of Moscow) and Tver (northwest of the Russian capital).
