One of the only people believed to overthrow Putin's regime, Alexei Navalny, will remain behind bars after a Moscow court rejected his 19-year sentence on six charges.
The media were only allowed to film the final verdict, as the hearing was held behind closed doors. Navalny reacted by saying that the process is being carried out behind closed doors as his rights are being violated. So he added that all the accusations are politically motivated and that this is an attempt to silence critical voices of President Putin.
We recall that his political movement and activity was declared illegal and "extremist" and its main participants were imprisoned. The 47-year-old returned to Russia in January 2021 after the assassination attempt where he was poisoned by a suspected Russian conspiracy. He was immediately arrested by the Russian police and imprisoned in Melekhovo east of Moscow.
Jailed along with him was Daniel Kholodny, a TV technician who worked for Navalny, who was sentenced to 8 years in prison under the same case.
