Bardella countered the criticism saying: "I am not against Europe. I'm against the way Europe works now."
Bardella's critics also accuse him of spending too much time improving his public image and not enough studying important political issues. Bardella has not revolutionized the party's belief system, experts point out, but he is still giving his party a youthful aura.
Despite the criticism and controversy, Bardella remains an influential and attractive figure to a large part of French voters, representing a new generation of leadership in France's far-right party, which continues to challenge the country's political establishment.
