Kaja Kallas raises concern about rising tensions in the Western Balkans: The EU
Kaja Kallas

The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has stressed that tensions in the Western Balkans are increasing and has called for the EU enlargement process to continue.

Kallas made this statement before the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, which is being held in Luxembourg, emphasizing that it is necessary to have success stories to maintain stability in the region.

"We see that tensions are rising and we definitely need to move forward with the enlargement process. This is something tangible and we really need success stories," Kallas said, underlining the importance of the Western Balkans' progress on the path to the European Union.

Meanwhile, Kallas did not mention specific countries where tensions are rising, but all attention is focused on Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the authorities of the Republika Srpska entity have taken actions that have increased the international community's concerns about the possibility of this Serbian entity seceding from Bosnia.

Kajas Kallas noted that the night before he had had a “very good dinner with our friends” from the Western Balkans. At this dinner, Kosovo was represented by the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla. After attending the dinner, Gërvalla also held a special meeting with Kallas.

Gërvalla stressed that he asked Kallas to treat Kosovo as an "equal and respected partner in all integration processes," demanding further engagement from the European Union in Kosovo's integration process.
