Chaos in the Turkish parliament, punches and kicks between deputies (Video)

Ruling party officials were involved in physical fights in Turkey's parliament during the swearing-in ceremony of the new justice and interior ministers, following a mini-government reshuffle that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan unexpectedly undertook on Wednesday.

Before Akın Gürlek and Mustafa Çiftçi were sworn in as Minister of Justice and Minister of Interior, Republican People's Party (CHP) deputies took the floor, causing the session to be interrupted.

CHP Deputy Chairman Gül Çiftçi stated on the "X" platform that Gürlek's appointment constitutes "an open reward for the operations he has carried out against our party."

President Erdogan's appointment of Gürlek to replace Yılmaz Tunç marks the first cabinet change since the last elections, held in mid-2023.

The authorities did not make public the reasons for this government reshuffle.
