Massacre in Canada

A serious incident has shocked Canada, after nine people were killed and at least 25 others were injured during a shooting in the small community of Tumbler Ridge, in the province of British Columbia.

According to police, the shooter killed nine people before taking his own life inside a high school. Six victims were found dead inside the school, while another died while being transported to the hospital. The shooter's body was also found inside the school, and two other victims were discovered in a nearby apartment.

Following the bloody incident, a video is circulating online, showing footage shortly after the massacre.

In the video, armed police officers are seen arriving at the school compound and approaching its entrances, while students and staff run towards the side where police vehicles are parked. At the same time, a helicopter monitors the area from the air.

Meanwhile, the testimonies of a student and his mother from the shooting at Tumbler Ridge High School in northeastern British Columbia, which left 10 dead (including the perpetrator) and at least 25 injured and plunged the small community into mourning, are shocking.

Darian Quist, a Grade 12 student at Tumbler Ridge High School, spoke with his mother, Shelley Quist, on a CBC radio show about what happened Tuesday afternoon. Darian described how, shortly after he arrived at his classroom, at around 1:30 p.m. local time, an alarm went off in the hallways, telling students to lock their doors due to the lockdown. "The doors stayed closed for a long time and that's when we realized something was wrong," he said. He and his classmates barricaded themselves inside the classroom for more than two hours before police escorted them out of the school building.

After leaving school, he met his mother at the community center, a few hundred meters away. Darian noted that the school is small, with students in grades 7 to 12, and estimated that his class only numbered about 20 students.

“The reality is starting to sink in,” he said. “I think I knew one of the victims, but it’s all still very fresh.” The school issued a statement saying it would work with local police to support students as they returned to class. “It feels almost surreal. It felt like I was in a place I’d only seen on TV,” he said.
