Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh told CNN he will not condemn the Hamas attack, which killed more than 1,000 innocent people on October 7, saying "supporting Israel is a license to kill."

"I hope that the United States does not go in that direction," he added.

In an interview, Shytayyeh told CNN's Becky Anderson why he was unwilling to condemn the attacks.

"Palestinian history does not begin on October 7," Shtayyeh said.

"The Palestinian catastrophe has been there for 75 years, and we've cried loud and we've shouted loud and clear that we need a solution."

He emphasized that "the punishment should be for the killing of every civilian, every human being who does not deserve to die. We must condemn this."

Shtayyeh claimed that the feeling of the Israeli people is a feeling of revenge.

"Israel is not under existential threat, and I think the White House should call on the parties to sit down and work together for a peaceful solution," he said.

International support should be for peace, not aggression, he said.

The prime minister called for a collective international effort led by the United Nations Security Council to end the war.

"What you need is a collective international effort on the part of the members of the Security Council to take the lead in ending the conflict and finding a solution," he said.
