French Navy seizes record amount of drugs, 9.6 tons of cocaine seized off the

A large drug shipment has been seized off the coast of West Africa after a police operation.

The operation was carried out by the French Navy, which announced this morning (September 25) that it had seized 9.6 tons of cocaine, worth more than 500 million euros, from a fishing boat off the coast of West Africa.

More specifically, according to information from the Atlantic Maritime Region, the operation was carried out by two Navy ships, following information provided by anti-drug services, naval intelligence services and the British police.

The action is part of the "Corymbe" mission, created in 1990 in the Gulf of Guinea, with the aim of strengthening security in a region where piracy is a frequent phenomenon.

"In total, 9.6 tons of cocaine with a market value of almost 519 million euros ($609 million) were seized from the ship," the Atlantic Maritime Region said, noting that the ship was not flying the flag of any country.

So far, no details have been given about the fate of the crew, while usually in such operations, the drugs are destroyed and the ship is allowed to continue its course.

This is the French Navy's biggest success in 2025. By the end of August, the French navy had already seized nearly six tons of cocaine off the coast of West Africa.

As stated at the time by the head of the Navy, Admiral Nicolas Bozour, the year 2025 has already been recorded as a record year, with more than 45 tons of drugs detected and seized by French naval forces.
