"I like your prime minister," the unexpected friendship between Donald

United States President Donald Trump is in Britain today for an official meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, at the government residence of Chequers.

The meeting comes amid a surprisingly positive climate between the two leaders who, despite coming from completely opposite political persuasions, have built a warm and respectful relationship.

Their first public encounter took place in February, during Starmer's first visit to the White House. The atmosphere was friendly and journalists did not miss the moments of mutual rapprochement. One special moment was when Starmer handed the president an invitation from the King for a second state visit to the United Kingdom.

"It says Windsor here; this is really something special," Trump said in surprise.

After the meeting, the president described Starmer as "a very strong negotiator," a compliment that goes a long way, especially coming from a leader who calls himself "the deal man."

The good relationship deepened further during Trump's four-day unofficial visit to Scotland in July. From there, he told the media: " I like your prime minister. He's a little more liberal than I am, as you may have heard, but he's a good man. He got a trade deal done. The prime minister has done a great job. I want to say this to the people of the United Kingdom. He's done a very, very good job."

Today's meeting at Chequers comes at a crucial time for both countries. The unexpected friendship between the two leaders remains an interesting element, but today is also expected to mark discussions on big issues such as trade, defense and global politics.
