A new book by French magazine Paris Match journalist Florian Tardif has put the relationship between President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, back in the spotlight.
In the work titled "A (Almost) Perfect Couple", the author makes allegations of a possible crisis within the presidential couple, linking it to the episode commented on in May 2025 at Hanoi airport.
According to Tardif, the tensions began after Brigitte Macron allegedly saw on the French president's phone some messages exchanged with Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani. The journalist claims that in one of them Macron wrote to the actress: "You are very beautiful."
The author says that the relationship between the French president and the actress took the form of a "platonic rapprochement," while the messages had quite personal content.
Florian Tardif stated in a radio interview that the information has been verified and is not speculation.
"These are not rumors. I did a lot of verification before publication," the journalist said, adding that the Elysee Palace was also informed about the version presented in the book.
Brigitte Macron's office, on the other hand, has reacted by categorically denying the claims. A spokeswoman for the French First Lady told Le Parisien that Brigitte Macron had spoken personally with the author on March 5 and denied any allegations of checking her husband's phone.
"Brigitte Macron categorically denied this information and clarified that she never checks the president's mobile phone," the spokeswoman stated.
The book has sparked a huge debate in France, while the episode filmed in Hanoi continues to be interpreted differently by the media and public opinion. According to the author, even the Elysee Palace itself later thought that the public reaction to the incident could have been handled differently.
