Meloni has received a total of 273 gifts...
They have called it Meloni's "safe". We are talking about the gifts received by the Italian Prime Minister in 31 months of government, 273 in total, 9 per month. According to the law, the Prime Minister cannot use them for private purposes, but can donate them to charity or display them. Those with a value greater than 300 euros must be delivered to the ceremonial office of Palazzo Chigi, which registers them and makes them available to the Presidency of the Council. Today they have been discovered, because at the request of the Italia Viva deputy, Francesco Bonifazi, Minister Luca Ciriani has deposited the list in the Chamber of Deputies.
The first dates back to November 2022, when at the G20 summit in Bali she was given the typical dress of Indonesian women, the last in chronological order is from March 7, 2025, when, after the visit to CERN in Geneva, Director General Fabiola Giannotti gifted the Prime Minister a USB and a high-conductivity cable.
The most generous heads of state seem to be Africans. On January 28, 2023, on his first state mission to Libya, the Prime Minister received seven carpets and two metal bracelets.
Five months later, again from Tripoli, she returned to Rome with 5 carpets and 4 paintings. A year later, on 7 May 2024, she returned from her visit to the Mattei Plan with a metal plaque, a set of jewelry, a painting and a commemorative plaque. She also received paintings of that time from Al-Sisi after her visit to Egypt.
The gifts that come from her trips to the Middle East are lavish: the most notable is from Kamel Al-Mubnajyed, president of the Italian-Saudi Business Council: a pair of blue python-skin shoes with stilettos and gold heels by designer Norah Alhumaid. On January 27, the Prime Minister received a vase of flowers, a writing desk in a red suitcase, and a box with a gold and pearl belt from Bahrain. She also brought a vase from Vietnam in 2023, a makeup kit from Japan, and a NATO emblem from Iraq. Pakistan is more moderate, from which she received a package of rice.
On January 15, for her birthday, the Prime Minister was in Abu Dhabi at the Energy Security Forum and was showered with gifts. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama gave her a black scarf, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman a plaque and two vases, the Slovak Prime Minister gave her a brooch, a ring, signature earrings and a jewelry box, while the Uzbek Prime Minister gave her a gold chain with diamonds and glycosides.
Then there are international friends. In June 2024, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gifted Meloni a set of Herend porcelain coffee cups and six bottles of white wine. Last November, Argentine President Javier Milei gifted the Prime Minister a “Milei chainsaw ornament” as well as a hand-woven pendant.
