The World Health Organization has issued a statement condemning a deadly attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip, adding that the hospital was full of wounded patients. While he emphasized that the number of victims may increase.
" The hospital was operational, with patients, caregivers and IDPs housed there. The first reports indicate hundreds of victims and wounded ," the statement said
The hospital was one of 20 in the northern Gaza Strip facing evacuation orders from the Israeli army. According to the WHO, the evacuation order has been impossible to implement given the current insecurity, the critical condition of many patients, the lack of ambulances, staff, bed capacity of the health system and alternative accommodation for the displaced.
" WHO calls for immediate active protection of civilians and health care. Evacuation orders should be canceled. International humanitarian law must be respected, which means that health care must be actively protected and never targeted ," said the WHO director's statement.
