Former US President Donald Trump has started planning his foreign policy for his second term as the head of the White House. After promising to stop the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, he is now considering the idea of agreeing a deal with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on nuclear weapons.
According to the Daily Mail, the deal would mean Kim would give up building new nuclear weapons, but would be allowed to keep some of those he has in exchange for the lifting of sanctions and economic aid from the US.
South Korea's spy agency recently said it expected its neighbor to conduct a nuclear test next year, its first since 2017. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula are already at their highest level in years.
Kim is believed to be accelerating his nuclear program and has enshrined in law his nation's right to launch strikes.
Such a deal by Trump would reverse Washington's stance on North Korea, as well as the former President's hard-line position, but would benefit from his friendly relations with the North Korean leader.
