The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, spoke at the start of the EU-Western Balkans summit that is being held in Brussels.
He underlined that in 2030 the expansion of the EU is needed, and for this he added that commitment is required from both sides, both from the EU side and also from the aspiring countries.
"Today we have a very important summit with the partners of the Western Balkans. We expect more reforms from them, especially in the rule of law and the rule of law. We want more reforms from the Balkan countries. But also we in Brussels we have to do our “homework.” But that's why we started the talks.
We want more investment and economic growth in the region. That is why we have changed our strategy, with concrete investments. The new project is based on reconciliation, the solution of important issues between countries. We need to be ready in 2030 for expansion and that requires commitment from both sides. It is important to respect each other and to build and stay together. We are strong when we are united ," said Michel.
This means that our country can join the EU in 2030, the year in which, as Michel said, the expansion of the Union is aspired.
