Parallel to the training of the NATO navy in the Baltic Sea, Russia also tests ships and warplanes. Russia claims to have neutralized the major Ukrainian offensive south of the Donetsk region.
NATO and Russia during the next two weeks will test their fleets in parallel in the Baltic Sea. 50 ships and boats and 45 aircraft with a total of 6,500 soldiers from NATO countries and Sweden are participating in the US-led "Baltops" exercise.
The Russian Baltic Sea Fleet on Monday (05.06) noted that it will simultaneously train 40 ships, 50 warplanes and 3,500 soldiers. NATO was not officially informed about this before. The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, does not expect that the situation between the two parties will be aggravated by these maneuvers.
"I'm not afraid of that," he said during a visit to the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern frigate off the Baltic Sea coast in Rostock. "It will be acted with great responsibility on the part of our forces." The chancellor considers this NATO exercise as a signal of strength towards Russia: "It is of course also a sign that with this maneuver, we are conducting an exercise that shows that we have the strength to organize the defense of the alliance and the country. And this will be understood with him."
Russia has likely neutralized the major Ukrainian offensive
The Russian armed forces, according to the data of the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, have neutralized a large Ukrainian offensive in the south of the Donetsk region. "On the morning of June 4, the enemy launched a large-scale offensive in five sectors of the front south of Donetsk," the ministry announced on the Telegram news channel. "The enemy did not achieve his goals, he did not succeed." About 250 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed.
16 Ukrainian tanks, three defense tanks and 21 armored fighting vehicles were destroyed. The ministry released a video showing how several Ukrainian armored vehicles explode in a field after the shooting. These data have not been verified by an independent party.
If we are dealing with fighting at the beginning of the big offensive, which Ukraine has been planning for months, this is still not clear. In the daily report of the Ukrainian general staff, it is only mentioned that there were 29 combat exchanges in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
