The United States military has detained a merchant ship that was suspected of trying to enter an Iranian port in violation of blockade measures imposed by Washington, a US official reported.
According to the source, the Gambian-flagged ship, the "Lian Star," failed to respond to several warnings from US forces overnight while sailing towards a port in Iran.
The official said the intervention was carried out by US aircraft in the Gulf of Oman area. The operation ended with the ship being stopped, without the need for US military personnel to board.
According to the same source, the vessel is currently unseaworthy and remains in the waters of the region. The operation was carried out in the framework of the implementation of US measures for the naval blockade of Iran.
US authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
