Now with technology from Elon Musk's company, the new jet engine propels the spacecraft out of the Earth's atmosphere and then returns to its launch site, ready to be refueled again and send off the next spacecraft. in space, thus cutting costs and time.
The trial began in South Texas shortly before 7:30 a.m. (local time). After expending most of its fuel, the Super Heavy booster (engine) detached from the Starship spacecraft and returned to the launch site, marking the first time SpaceX has recovered a jet engine after launch.
The Starship continued to fire up its six engines and continue flying into space. The spacecraft drifted away for a while before descending back to Earth, pulled by gravity and enduring extreme temperatures and friction.
The Starship re-entered Earth's atmosphere about 50 minutes after liftoff. In the end it ended up in the ocean, as planned.
In the next test it is expected that SpaceX eventually hopes to return to the launch site not only the engine, Super Heavy, but also the spacecraft Starship which uses a parachute to land it on the ground.
This achievement was applauded by the head of NASA Bill Nelson who through a post on the social network "X" expressed his congratulations to "Space X".

SpaceX - and NASA - have big goals for this rocket.
NASA wants to use Starship to make the final leg of the journey to return astronauts to the Moon for the first time in five decades as part of its Artemis program. The space agency awarded SpaceX a $2.9 billion contract through 2021 to do the work, and signed another $1 billion deal after that.
