US threatens Israel over West Bank annexation, Netanyahu blames opposition:

US President Donald Trump declared that Washington will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank, making it clear that in such a case, the Jewish state would lose US support.

"It's not going to happen. It's not going to happen because I gave the Arab countries their word. And you can't do that now. We had great Arab support. It's not going to happen because I gave the Arab countries their word. It's not going to happen. Israel would lose all of its support from the United States if that happened," Trump said in an interview with Time magazine, when asked about the consequences of a possible Israeli annexation of the West Bank.

US Vice President JD Vance described Israel's efforts to annex the West Bank as "a very idiotic political stunt".

Under these circumstances, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately reacted, describing as a "deliberate political provocation" by the opposition the vote in the Knesset on two bills related to the annexation of the West Bank, a vote that took place during the visit of US Vice President JD Vance to Israel.

" The vote for annexation was a deliberate provocation by the opposition, aimed at creating divisions during the visit of US Vice President JD Vance to Israel ," said the official statement from Netanyahu's office, which also strongly condemned the action.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu is expected to meet tonight with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who arrived in Israel this afternoon.

Recall that the press service of the Israeli parliament reported earlier that the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) had approved the preliminary reading of two bills on the application of Israeli sovereignty over two settlements in the West Bank. On July 23, the Knesset adopted a statement calling on the country's government to extend Israeli sovereignty to the West Bank. A total of 71 out of 120 lawmakers voted in favor of the statement, while 13 abstained.
