The air service in Great Britain has been thrown into chaos today, after more than 500 flights were canceled due to a problem with the air traffic control system.
UK air traffic control service Nats said it had "identified and rectified the technical issue". It apologized for the disruption caused by the fault and said it was "working closely with airlines and airports" to get things back to normal.

"We have identified and corrected the technical issue affecting our flight control system this morning. We are now working closely with airlines and airports to manage the affected flights as efficiently as possible. Our engineers will carefully monitor system performance as we return to normal operations," National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said in a statement.

Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium as of 2.30pm BST revealed hundreds of flights had been canceled today.
– 232 flights departing from UK airports have been cancelled.
– 271 flights arriving at UK airports were canceled – equivalent to 9% of all arrivals.
Airlines and airports across the UK have issued warnings about delays - noting these were beyond their control and advising travelers to check their flight is running before heading to their airport.
