At least 27 people have died and 75 others were injured as a result of a powerful explosion in Makhachkala, the Russian Emergencies Ministry announced.
The blast happened at a petrol station after a fire broke out at a car service, engulfing cars and buildings hundreds of meters away.
The fire had reached an area of 600 square meters.
According to Russia's Deputy Minister of Health, Vladimir Fisenko, ten of the injured have been hospitalized in critical condition.
As the local authorities announced, three of the victims are children, while 13 other children were injured.
An Ilyushin Il-76 air ambulance was dispatched by Russian authorities to transport people in critical condition to Moscow. Images from the site of the explosion show the extent of the destruction, as the area resembles a bombed area.
