Donald Trump has been indicted for the fourth time this year. Former US President Donald Trump is accused of trying to overturn his loss in the 2020 election in Georgia. This was decided by the Fulton County grand jury in Atlanta.
There are 19 defendants named in the 41-count indictment. In addition to Trump, it includes his lawyers, John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani, as well as former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said the 19 defendants have until noon on August 25 to "voluntarily surrender."
The grand jury's decision comes at the end of a day in which various witnesses were heard, including Republican Geoff Duncan, the former lieutenant governor of Georgia.
Originally a supporter of Trump, Duncan has since become one of his most vocal foes. "He's the worst candidate ever," he said as he left the courtroom after his grand jury deposition.
This is the fourth indictment Trump faces. The former president, who is the current 2024 GOP chairman, has been indicted on three separate occasions this year. He denies any wrongdoing and says they are politically motivated.
On his "Truth" social media page, Trump wrote in capital letters: “Will someone tell the Fulton County Grand Jury that I did not rig the election. Among the people who manipulated them is sadly Fan Willis, who has shockingly allowed Atlanta to become one of the most dangerous cities in the world, has no interest in seeing the massive amount of evidence available, or finding out that who are these people who committed this crime. She wants to capture 'only Mr. Trump,'” he wrote.
