A U.S. House of Representatives committee has released more than 33,000 pages of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The Justice Department provided the documents to the oversight committee. It was initially unclear whether the documents contained new information. According to the Washington Post, more releases are expected.
The issue is weighing heavily on Republicans and President Donald Trump. Politicians of all parties are demanding full transparency. Trump is under pressure because he promised to reveal all the files during his campaign.
In mid-August, the US government announced it would release Epstein's documents to Congress. The Republican chairman of the committee, James Comer, stated that the Justice Department would release the documents gradually.
"It will take some time to get all the documents and redact the victim identification and all the child sexual abuse materials," Comer said. So the department followed his order since early August.
"We are in the process of uploading these documents to ensure full transparency so that everyone in America can see these documents," Comer said.
The documents will be uploaded as soon as possible. "We want them to be made public as soon as possible."
The massive release of documents comes as Republican Representative Thomas Massie and Democratic Representative Ro Khanna continued to call for what Khanna described as "full release of the Epstein files and justice for the survivors."
Massie and Khanna's proposal for "full release" would require Attorney General Pam Bondi to make public all unclassified Epstein records in the possession of the Justice Department, including the FBI and U.S. attorneys' offices.
Massie and Khanna were scheduled to hold a press conference with some of Epstein's victims on Wednesday morning to support their call for the full release of files in the high-profile case.
Trump's attorney general, Pam Bondi, initially spoke of a list of Epstein's prominent "clients" but then denied its existence in early July. To calm the ensuing uproar from his supporters, Trump promised to release legal documents related to the case.
