Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Kiev "has its hopes in America" at a time when attention is focused on a controversial meeting in Alaska, where Donald Trump is also expected to be present.
Zelensky, who was not invited to the meeting, said he would receive a report from intelligence services today on the “current intentions of the Russian side” and Moscow’s preparations for the meeting. According to him, “the risk is great” and any discussion should pave the way for a “just peace” through a tripartite format: Ukraine, the US and Russia.
Responding to Trump's criticism that "Zelensky has had years of endless meetings and has failed to end the war," the Ukrainian president said: "It's time to end this war. Russia must take the necessary steps. We are ready to work as productively as possible."
In the same statement, Zelensky warned of the grave situation on the front of Pokrovsk, a strategic city in eastern Ukraine, where Kiev is reinforcing its defenses in the face of pressure from Russian troops.
