German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today, where they discussed the situation in the region.
A German government spokesman said Scholz asked Netanyahu not to escalate the situation in the region.
"The chancellor stressed that it was essential to avoid a regional escalation ," the spokesman said.
The call comes as Iran and Israel, locked in a shadow war for years, try to reduce tensions after a series of escalating attacks between them, as the Israel-Hamas war ignites the wider region.
