US President Donald Trump said he had a conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about Iran and the trade negotiations underway with the European Union.
In a post on the social network 'Truth Social', Trump said he had a good conversation with Von der Leyen, adding that she had agreed that Iran should never have a nuclear weapon.
"We discussed many topics, including the fact that we are completely united that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon ," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, adding that it was a great conversation.
Recall that Iran is still reviewing "messages" from the US through Pakistani intermediaries and has not yet finalized its response to a US proposal to end the war.
Trump also said he pressed von der Leyen on trade commitments related to what he described as a "Historic Trade Agreement" reached at Turnberry last year.
"I have been waiting patiently for the EU to fulfill its part of the Historic Trade Deal we agreed to in Turnberry, Scotland, the Greatest Trade Deal Ever! A promise was made that the EU would fulfill its part of the Deal and, under the Deal, would cut tariffs to ZERO!" Trump added.
The president said he agreed to give the European Union until the 250th anniversary of the United States before raising tariffs “to much higher levels.” It is not clear under what authority Trump could impose such duties, given a Supreme Court ruling that struck down his tariff policy earlier this year.
