Referee Letexier officiated the Egypt-Argentina match, FIFA expels him from the

FIFA has suspended French referee François Letexier from the remainder of the World Cup, following the controversy surrounding the Egypt-Argentina match in the round of 16. FIFA has decided that French referee François Letexier will not be officiating any more matches in the remainder of the World Cup. The decision comes after France secured qualification for the semi-finals and is not related to the controversy that followed the Egypt-Argentina match in the round of 16.

FIFA's refereeing committee regulations stipulate that referees from countries that reach the semi-finals are automatically excluded from officiating the remaining matches. The aim of this measure is to preserve the impartiality of the competition and avoid any potential conflict of interest.

For the same reason, the other French referee, Clément Turpin, has also left, as have the judges representing Spain, Argentina and England, the four national teams that have secured a place in the semi-finals.

Unlike Letexier and Turpin, Jérôme Brisard will continue to be part of the tournament only in the role of VAR referee. During this World Cup he has not officiated any matches as the main referee, but has been engaged exclusively in the video room.

FIFA has clarified that Letexier's expulsion does not constitute a disciplinary measure, but is the result of the application of tournament regulations.
