US President Donald Trump has reacted after the Israeli attack in Beirut, stating that such an action should not have been carried out at a time when, according to him, the parties are close to reaching a peace agreement with Iran.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said that the attack risks damaging diplomatic efforts underway to reduce tensions in the region.
He called on all parties to stop escalating the conflict, stressing that the US and Iran are very close to an agreement.
"The attack should not have happened, especially on such an important day when we are so close to a peace deal with Iran," Trump wrote.
He added that there should be no more Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, but at the same time demanded that Hezbollah and other groups stop attacks on Israel.
According to Trump, current developments could serve as a starting point for a long period of peace in the region.
"This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace, let's not ruin it," he concluded in his message.
