Turkey has blocked access to the social media platform, Instagram. The country's Information Technology regulator made the news on Monday, but did not give a reason or time frame for the shutdown.
The move follows comments made on Wednesday by Turkish communications official Fahrettin Altun, who criticized the platform for what he described as a decision to block posts condoling the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, a key Palestinian militant group official. , Hamas.
"This is censorship, pure and simple," Altun, director of communications at the Turkish Presidency, said in a post on the X platform, adding that Instagram had not cited any policy violations for its action.
The Technology and Communication Authority of Turkey published the decision on its website on August 2.
